John R. Iglar, M.D.
Expert Evaluations for Exceptional Outcomes

Dr. John Iglar is a diagnostic radiologist for Radiology Associates of Appleton. In this role, he determines direction of radiological care options by assessing new technologies and equipment with input from other Radiology Associates physicians.

His special interests in general radiology include:
   • Percutaneous biopsies and drainages
   • PET imaging
   • Gastrointestinal radiology

Dr. Iglar is one of three physicians at Radiology Associates who perform Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging. PET is often more sensitive than conventional diagnostic imaging, distinguishing tumors as cancerous or noncancerous and detecting cancer that has spread to other areas of the body. PET scans are used most often to detect cancer and to determine the effectiveness of therapy by characterizing biochemical changes in the cancer.

Although guidelines are continually expanding for this new technology, Dr. Iglar currently uses PET to stage various types of cancer, including lymphomas, breast cancer, lung nodules, colon cancer and others. Along with Dr. Sowin and Dr. Knudson, the three perform and read more PET scans than any other radiological group in the area.

Dr. Iglar received his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin and completed his residency in diagnostic radiology at the University of Minnesota Hospital and Clinics. He is board certified in radiology by the American College of Radiology and is a member of the Radiological Society of North America.
